Hela's history began in 1960. In Jozefow near Otwock, a city next to Warsaw, a small ice cream shop was established to produce natural artisanal ice cream. The ice cream was prepared according to traditional recipes and the customers liked it so much, it soon became widely popular all over the local area. Customers would come by train carrying vacuum flasks, even travelling 30-40 kilometers, just to let their friends and family taste the delicious ice cream from Hela. We recall this memory because it is important to us - it testifies to years of experience, efforts and successes and affects our credibility in the market.
Industrial production of ice cream began in 1991, and the company takes the name Hela after the owners’ mother. Using equipment that was innovative at the time, ice cream was produced in wafer cones and containers, and the brand quickly gained renown in Warsaw and the surrounding area.
In 1997, Hela teamed up with Inter Prima, a company based in Gdynia, resulting in the establishment of Hela Prima, while in 2000 ice cream production began in a new factory in Karczew. In 2008, with EU funding, two modern automated production lines were built.
The company has also implemented an integrated ERP-class IT system to support the management of the company, and has established a research and development laboratory.
